One of the most challenging parts of this podcast adventure is being able to tell whether we have an audience. If we were hosting these conversations in person, we could look out and see how many people were in the audience, and they could interact with us in real time. But posting a podcast and then wondering is not the same is as having that immediate feedback, back-and-forth. We do have access to statistics, and the statistics tell us that almost 3000 downloads have happened to our podcast. We get a little bit more information, such as the city, and the country where the podcast took place based on analysis of IP addresses, but it’s not possible to tell how many of those are actual people, how many are bots, how many of them are someone who once subscribed to the podcast so that Apple podcasts for example automatically downloaded it to their phone. But that’s not the same thing as knowing which people actually listen all the way through.
We have added the ability for people to comment on our website, but we understand that that takes an extra step. If you’re driving in your car listening to our podcast you probably are not going to take the time when you’re not driving to go to our website just to leave a comment unless we have said something really outrageous, and we’re trying not to say anything really outrageous just interesting and useful. So we are left wondering who is actually listening to our podcast.
We try to ask questions in the outro and invite people to visit our website and leave a comment but as I say, it requires an extra step and so far only one person in the several months that we’ve had this available has taken the trouble to do It(much appreciated!). We also have on our website the ability for someone to click on a link and send us a direct message, and we’ve had a few of those, usually someone wondering whether they could join us on the podcast. So here’s a request while you are here on our website, which is where you have to be to reading this blog, could you please at least try out the comments? We don’t mind someone’s leaving a comment that says “checking, checking 123” or something to that effect, just to be certain that it’s actually working. Our current comment system is connected to Facebook and it requires a Facebook account by the poster I think but I’m not sure of that. We have other options available to us. But we haven’t explored those yet.
Anyway, at this point you get the point, so if you’re so inclined, please, while you’re here, leave us a comment. You can leave a review while you’re here; you can ask us a question in the comments; you could send us a message giving us some feedback, or suggesting someone that might be a good guest on our podcast. We’d really like it if your comment were actually a comment on something we or our guests said, thereby extending and deepening the comversation.
Thanks for listening!
